SHIRE Community Grant 2021-22

Round 2 of the SHIRE Community Grant programme for 2021-22 is now open for applications and the application forms can be found on this webpage.

Any enquiries for potential SHIRE Grant applications can be sent to

To help deliver the priorities of Leicestershire County Council's Communities Strategy, along with other strategic priorities of the Council, the SHIRE Community Grant programme enables VCSE (Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise) sector organisations to deliver community-based projects, services and activities which help to improve the lives of vulnerable people in Leicestershire.

Eligible organisations will be able to access a range of grants for community based projects and activities that are specifically focused on supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people and communities.

We are particularly interested in funding services, projects and activities that will:

  • improve the lives, health and wellbeing of vulnerable or disadvantaged people and communities in Leicestershire
  • provide community-based early intervention and prevention solutions which help to reduce demand on Council and other public services
  • complement existing services already being delivered

If you think your organisation may be eligible for funding, please contact the Grant Officers to discuss your application for funding in more detail. The Grant Officers will provide further advice, before asking you to complete an online application form.

SHIRE Community Grants 2021-22 - Types of Grant Available

If you are a voluntary, community or social enterprise (VCSE) sector organisation that provides services for vulnerable and disadvantaged people who live in Leicestershire, then you may be eligible to apply for a SHIRE Grant in 2021-22.

There are five different types of SHIRE Grants you can apply for in 2021-22:

  1. Small Grants (maximum £3,000)
  2. Large Grants (minimum £3,001; maximum £10,000)
  3. Capital Grants (minimum £1,000; maximum £10,000)
  4. Match Funding (minimum £3,000; maximum £10,000)
  5. Partnership Grants (minimum £5,000; maximum £25,000)

Please note that your organisation can only apply for one of the above grants in 2021-22. However, your organisation can also apply for a Partnership Grant in 2021-22, along with one of the other SHIRE Grants this year.

Match Funding Grants are specifically reserved for organisations who are also applying for grants with the Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation or the National Lottery Community Fund's Awards for All programme in 2021-22.

Please note, if you have been successfully awarded a grant of between £3,000 and £10,000 from either the Leicestershire & Rutland Community Foundation, or the National Lottery Community Fund's Awards for All programme in 2021-22, this does not guarantee that SHIRE Grant Match Funding will automatically be made available to you. You will still need to submit a SHIRE Grant application for Match Funding, and this application will be assessed on its individual merits, in line with the SHIRE Grant eligibility criteria.

If you wish to apply for Match Funding, or a Partnership Grant, then we strongly advise you to contact the Grants Team prior to submitting an application.

Furthermore, if you received a grant from the Leicestershire Communities Fund in 2020-21, again, please contact the Grants Team prior to applying.
