Leicestershire Equalities Challenge Group

The Leicestershire Equalities Challenge Group (LECG) brings together a partnership of people and organisations across the county that have a strong commitment to maximise equality of outcomes in Leicestershire.

The benefits of this County-based network means that it

  • reflects the views and concerns of service users and there is a good understanding of local communities
  • ensures that people are not excluded or disadvantaged because of protected characteristics (age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation)
  • works in partnership with the County Council to find innovative and sustainable ways of bringing about solutions to service issues/problems
  • considers equality implications, for different groups and sections of the community, and that any negative implications, are eliminated and/or minimised by other measures.

Leicestershire County Council funds LECG to act as a platform for sharing equalities issues and providing input and challenge to plans and proposals for service change.

LECG meets four times a year and had its first meeting in March 2015. In between the quarterly meetings, task and finish groups meet to discuss and assess equality implications on specific service topics.
