Holocaust Memorial Day 2021: 'Be the light in the darkness'
Posted: Wed, 27 Jan 2021 10:18
Leicestershire communities are asked to take part in Holocaust Memorial Day 2021 on 27th January 2021 by safely lighting and displaying a candle at home at 8pm tonight. This follows after the national UK commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day which is being livestreamed this year at 7pm in place of a physical event due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The lockdown also means that local events organised in Leicester and by the county and district councils cannot be held physically. Instead, the councils have compiled a dedicated webpage with information about the origins and purpose of Holocaust Memorial Day, what's going on, and how people can get involved by:
- Registering to watch the national commemoration event
- Lighting a candle to reflect the theme of this year's Holocaust Memorial Day - 'Be the light in the darkness'
- Painting a Foundation Stone
More details are on the following webpage as well as links to a survivor's story, a talk by Professor Aubrey Newman of Leicester University, and contributions by local schools.
