Thummy Drummer - Thurmaston
Thummy Drummer is a local support group whose main aim is to provide support to people with dementia and their friends and family.
Thurmaston Parish Council has provided support to the Thummy Drummer group through their local grant scheme which offers up to £50 bi- annually for a group to access.
Thummy Drummer is a local support group that is widely accessed by people with dementia and their friends and family. The group provides an opportunity for dementia sufferers and their carers to socialise and access fun, stimulating and interactive activities. The group organises talks and activities from local businesses and public services such as the fire and rescue, local police and NHS representatives.
The group is run entirely by volunteers and by funds raised from fundraising activities and meets at the parish council premises. It meets every month end and engages between 20-30 people per session.
The presence of this group and the support it gets from the local community is a good example of communities being dementia friendly and working together to deliver a service.
