Draft Strategic Growth Plan Consulation

Consultation 11 January - 5th April 2018

Consultation on Leicester & Leicestershire's Draft Strategic Growth Plan is now open.

A copy of the Draft Plan and information on the evidence used in its preparation are now available on a dedicated website www.llstrategicgrowthplan.org.uk

The Plan puts forward proposals for the new housing and transport improvements that would be needed to attract jobs and investment to Leicester and Leicestershire from now until 2050. It will also be used to support bids for Government funding to delivery the infrastructure needed to support growth.

Comments on the Draft Plan are invited as part of a county-wide consultation open until 5th April 2018. A summary leaflet and a consultation questionnaire have been prepared and both are available on the website.

The plan estimates that Leicester and Leicestershire needs 96,580 new homes and 367-423 hectares of employment land from 2011-2031. Some of these homes have already been built or have planning permission. The plan identifies further dwelling and employment land need beyond 2031 and includes major infrastructure improvements such as an A46 Expressway to the south and east of Leicester as well as upgrading the A5 and A42 to expressway status.

The Asfordby Parish Neighbourhood Plan has allowed people, who live, work and have a business in the parish, to have a say on where they think new houses, businesses and shops should go and what they should look like. The plan provides for around 150 new homes to be built and business development at the former Asfordby Mine and Holwell Works. Important open spaces are to be protected, including the countryside separating the settlements of Asfordby, Asfordby Valley and Asfordby Hill.

Ronnie DeBurle, Asfordby Parish Council Chairman and Borough Councillor said:
'A lot of time and effort has gone into preparing the Plan, but by working together we can now ensure the parish develops in a way that meets the needs of everyone.'
