The Lord-Lieutenant, Lady Gretton, who is The Queen's representative for Leicester and Leicestershire, invites young people to enter a Commonwealth Competition by thinking about what brings people together from different countries and cultures to become friends. Young people are asked to submit a short story, a poem, a drawing, or a painting, which celebrates friendship across cultures. See attached poster for more details. Poppy Lamp Post Scheme 2018.
This is an opportunity for the residents of North West Leicestershire to honour all those who fell in the First World War. This year marks the 100year anniversary, remembering the bravery of those who fought, lived and died in the Great War.
The Council would like to see the lamp posts in communities dressed with red remembrance poppies.

The British Red Cross is working with community partners to provide free First Aid sessions to the following community groups:
• Adults over 65 at risk of slips, trips and falls.
• People living with issues around drug and alcohol usage.
• People who are homeless or rough sleepers and at risk of injury or sudden illness.s
These are informal sessions and can be arranged at a user's venue.
Currently they are delivering in the Leicestershire area.
